About Rachel Kooyman, Artist & Owner of Central Coast Face
As a young girl, Rachel would come home with scrapes and bruises from playing softball and building forts in the dirt. For years her mother would tell her to "fem up." Who would have ever guessed this girl would become an opera singer and a make up artist! Rachel has been in the cosmetic industry for nearly ten years and has worked professionally in California and Manhattan. As a Central Coast native, Rachel began to get involved with choir and local theatre companies. In college, she began to take an interest in theatrical make up. She started in a local department store and took such pleasure in her clients that she moved to New York to become an Executive Trainer. With training from Benefit Cosmetics, Bobbi Brown, Shiseido and Urban Decay she moved home with her husband to start her new company Central Coast Face.
"New York was such a milestone for my career," says Rachel. "The rich diversity of women and savvy customers forced me to grow as an artist and to take risks. I have come to realize that my true passion is making women feel beautiful through educating them. I have learned so many tips and tricks, and I love sharing them! My motto is keep it simple. It's about finding the right products for your skin with the least amount of time and effort. All women have a beauty about them, it's just enhancing that beauty and building their confidence."
Although Rachel has had her hand in runway, television, theatre and training, her favorite has always been weddings. "It's such a magical time in a woman's life. I've loved every second of it! Sometimes we get so carried away in the details that we have to remind ourselves to breathe. Makeup is my breath of fresh air. It's the Zen time of my day where all I do is concentrate on me. I find brides feel the same way. They giggle with their bridesmaids and moms, they relax and transform into a radiant woman. I love to see their reaction when they look in the mirror."
